Android iOS now leads in the total number of downloaded applications as both a Google open source strategy, and helps damaging the platform.
The Android platform was responsible for 44 percent of all downloads of mobile applications in the second quarter of 2011, as opposed to IOS 31 percent, according to ABI Research. Studies show Android application downloads per user remains trails Apple by a margin of two to one, but the number of users with Android phones turned in place for the difference.
“The open source Android strategy is the most important factor for success,” said Lim Shiyang, ABI Research Associate. ”Being a free platform has broadened the base Android install the device, which in turn attracted the growth of third-party multi-platform mobile app stores and operator.”
In 2009, the Android Market made up only 11 percent of mobile application downloads and was projected to more than 20 percent by the year 2014. But after an unprecedented growth of the Android platform is now the number one app downloads, as well as the total market share smartphone.
Android is also expected Apple to outperform the total number of applications available through the middle of 2012, an area where there has always been behind him. However, the success of Android applications are not necessarily come at the expense of Apple. The manufacturer of the iPhone has more than 500,000 applications and App Store generates huge amounts of revenue for the company and developers.
The open-source strategy, which has led to the Android Market to open the door for rapid growth and the malware and viruses on Android devices, but that’s no problem for users of IOS. Since different types of malware are growing on the platform, Google faces the challenge of working with manufacturers and developers to limit the problem as far as possible.
The figures could show that Google is the leading mobile applications, but Android Market still has many areas where it can improve.
